This week’s article is a follow-up to a 1992 article on Joan Brower, an exceptional historian who devoted years of research to the Mountain Top’s history and genealogy. Joan not only worked for nine long months cleaning, organizing, and logging records at the Hunter Town building, but she also continued researching and documenting history for years afterward.
Joan and her late husband, Bob Brower (the local Brower Boys were Paul, Bob and Jack Brower), knew the area well. In later years they moved to Florida, and Joan may be unaware of how much Bob Gildersleeve and John Curran (MTHS archivists) utilize the information she discovered. Joan donated numerous binders of organized information on the area’s people, organizations and businesses. The archivists filled a large, three-shelf metal rack with Joan’s work. The binders are referenced frequently.
