Among the upper class in Mexico there are some surnames that are common, some are very elaborate and others not so much, while some have European origin, others may seem closer. We tell you everything about it.

To begin, it is necessary to clarify that upper-class people have a monthly income of 77,297 pesos in their homes, according to data from the study Quantifying the Middle Class in Mexico 2010-2020, from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Surnames of the upper class in Mexico

In the country, some people associate surnames that begin with “De” with the upper class, such as “De la Torre”, “De la Renta, “De León”, among others, however, linguists affirm that this preposition does not have relationship with social class, but with the place of origin.

Jaime Salazar, professor of the UNED Master’s in Heraldry, Genealogy and Nobility, acknowledged that surnames with ‘De’ are common in the upper class, but it is not a hallmark of this sector of society.
