Looking for clues to solve mystery of metal discoveries

SAN ANTONIO — I was rummaging through my (metal-detector) finds of yesteryear and came across this marker. It has been quite a few years ago, and I can’t remember where I found it. It’s 2¼ inches by 1½ inches, made of brass, and I’m pretty sure I dug it up in San Antonio. It’s slightly curved and gives no indication of how it was fastened.
I tried to check if there was anyone with that last name and not only did I not find anyone here, but that family seems nonexistent in the U.S. I was just wondering if you had any idea of what it may be. Do you think it’s possibly a grave marker?
Also, I dug up an old military pin at my buddy’s ranch near Hebbronville. I’ve looked at quite a few of these but have not found this particular one. I’m sure the K and the 2 indicate the company or battalion. While metal-detecting this ranch, I found several coins from the early 1900s and late 1800s.
