From history to cooking to technology, Fox Chapel Area Adult Education (FCAAE) is back with a slate of courses that appeal to all ages and aspiring talents.

The program, in its 59th year, is offering nearly three dozen enrichment classes to keep locals up to date on the latest trends in genealogy, flower arranging and chair yoga, among others.

Classes will be hosted on Zoom for now, Executive Director Sue Goodwin said.

Board members will reevaluate in-person classes in late September and review covid-19 cases in the Fox Chapel Area School District and Allegheny County.

The county currently has a high level of covid-19 transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Our biggest need right now is letting the world know we are alive and offering the same high-quality, affordable classes that we have provided for 59 years,” Goodwin said. “It’s just all on Zoom.”

Offering online courses now will give students the greatest chance of enjoying face-to-face learning later this year, Goodwin said.

Founded in 1963, FCAAE is an outreach program of the Fox Chapel Area School District that provides enrichment classes to adults at a low tuition.

The program receives facility support from the district but is kept financially afloat only through student tuition.

Courses begin Sept. 13 with weekly and one-night programs available. Costs vary.

If possible, FCAAE will offer an abbreviated fall series of its popular swim, pickleball, basketball and other programs.

In the meantime, there are a slew of courses designed to help people scratch the surface of new interests.
